Christmas Celebration returns to Windermere with a new Winter Wonderland

Tuesday 19th July 2022

Following postponement in 2020 and 2021 the team behind the Windermere Christmas Celebration has announced the event will go ahead in 2022 with dates set for 10th and 11th December. The event will feature a new twist having moved off the streets and into the Windermere Library Gardens with something the team is calling a “Winter Wonderland”.

The successful weekend-long event draws crowds of thousands from across the Country to Windermere to enjoy food, drink, and family festivities. Led by the team from the Windermere Tourist Information Centre and The Mountain Goat, the community-run event hopes the new location will put the event on a sustainable footing for future years, alongside giving the event a more intimate winter wonderland feel.

Event Director Kate Barton of Windermere TIC thanked all the support the event has received saying; “it’s been a challenging couple of years to put on an event like this, but with some slight changes we are able to still operate this popular event in Windermere and we hope this year will be the best yet. I want to thank the continued from key partners like Mountain Goat, Lamplighter Dining Rooms, Windermere Town Council, McClures and Windermere Lake Cruises as well as many more. We continue to prioritise local traders and will shortly be opening for applicants to apply to have a stall at the event.”

Windermere Councillor Ben Berry said that it felt great to bring the event back and that the move of location was the best way to keep the event successful saying – “I know so many friends, family and businesses that have very much missed the event for the past two years. Getting the event back in the calendar and on a firm financial footing is now key to ensure we can enjoy getting together in this way for many more years to come. In the past road closure costs took much of our budget but now with the kind support of South Lakeland District Council providing the new Windermere Library Gardens location we’re well on our way to the best year yet”.
